Drive-In FAQs

Location and Basics:

WHERE IS THE DRIVE IN?
859 – 869 Willow Branch Ave, on the Riverside/Murray Hill border.  You’ll see a big grey building (that’s number 859) and then right behind it is the drive in lot.

SO WHAT’S IN FIVE POINTS? HOW LONG HAS THERE BEEN A DRIVE IN?
1028 Park St is the location of Sun-Ray Cinema, a two screen neighborhood movie theatre in a historic district that opened in 2011.  It’s open daily for shows with reserved seating, at a limited capacity.  Since Summer 2020 Sun-Ray Cinemas has been hosting drive in movies offsite, providing inclusive options for moviegoing in these stranger than ever times.

HOW DO I HEAR THE MOVIE?
Through the magic of an FM radio transmitter!  You can use your car radio or bring your own portable unit.

Ticketing:

HOW DO I GET TICKETS?
Look for shows with this symbol: Drive-In Icon on our website or app.  Buying ahead is recommended, you just need to show your email confirmation or proof of purchase on the app.  Please note that some movies play at both the drive in and the main theatre.  If you see this Theatre Seat Icon symbol and are asked to select a seat, you are not buying a drive in ticket.  If you made a mistake buying tickets please call the box office at 359-0049 after 3PM any day.

HOW MUCH ARE TICKETS?
$20 per vehicle.  One ticket needs to be purchased per car load.  This means no matter how many people in the vehicle, as long as they all arrive together in the same car it is the same price.

CAN I BUY TICKETS AT THE GATE?
Yes, as long as they are available.  Please note that as of this writing we can not take credit cards for onsite ticket purchases so please bring cash.

Parking:

HOW DOES PARKING WORK? DO I HAVE TO SHOW UP EARLY FOR A GOOD SPOT?
When you arrive a drive in staff member will check your ticket and direct you as to where to park.  The spot you are directed to will depend on how tall your vehicle is, and whether you plan to back in or watch from the front seats of your car.

WHAT ABOUT TAILGATING?

TailgatingThese photos show some of the A Game Picnic Spreads inspired by Sun-Ray Drive Ins.  Camping chairs, snuggly hatchbacks and truck bed patio furniture setups are welcome.  Cars are spaced to allow some room for spreading out, but please plan to follow staff directives in the event your setup inadvertently impacts the viewing experience for other guests.  Also be mindful that you will need to break down and “unpark” in a timely manner so that we can accommodate the guests for the next show.

Schedule:

WHEN ARE THE SHOWS?
Every Friday and Saturday night, with select additional screenings on Sunday – Thursday as the schedule permits.

HOW DO I FIND SHOWTIMES FOR A SPECIFIC DATE?
Visit the Coming Soon tab and scroll to the date you are wanting to buy tickets.  If you don’t see any showtimes listed with a symbol Drive-In Icon that means there are no drive in shows yet scheduled for that date.

Amenities:

WHAT ABOUT CONCESSIONS?
Sun-Ray Cinema’s Concession Trailer is open for all shows, serving popcorn, hot dogs and veggie dogs.  Select shows also feature food truck partners.  Delivery from Sun-Ray Cinema’s Pizza Cave! Is also available for no additional charge.  Beer, wine and cocktails can be purchased from the onsite bar and brought to your car.

ARE THERE BATHROOMS?
Restrooms are located in the bar.  For that reason moviegoers under 18 must be accompanied by an adult when accessing the restroom facilities.

CAN I BRING MY OWN FOOD AND BEVERAGE?
Absolutely!

Weather and Refunds:

LOOKS LIKE BAD WEATHER, NOW WHAT?
Drive in shows are rain or shine.  Unless tropical storm level winds are forecast, the show must go on.  Too wet for you?  No biggie, just email keymaster@sunraycinema.com anytime before showtime and we will release your ticket and issue you a pass that you can use at any drive in show in the future.  Passes don’t expire, you will just need to use it to rebook as soon as you know what you want to see.

I CAN’T MAKE THE MOVIE, WHAT DO I DO?
You can absolutely give your ticket away to a friend, as long as they have the confirmation screen to show the ticketing attendant we are happy to honor it.  You can also email keymaster@sunraycinema.com anytime before showtime and we will issue a credit for another show.

Special Events:

CAN I RENT OUT THE DRIVE IN?
Rentals for private groups are available for Sunday – Thursday evenings.  Email shana@sunraycinema.com for more information.

WHAT ABOUT DAYTIME DRIVE INS?
It’s too sunny during the day to see the movie.
